Helen Barber has been reading Chalet School stories for a very long time. Born and educated in the North East of England, she now lives in South Wales and enjoys views of the same Black Mountains that Elinor Brent-Dyer describes in her wartime books. Helen was prevented by illness from continuing in full-time education, but gained a first degree from the Open University in 2002, and was later awarded a PhD from the University of Durham for her research into the works of Plautus. In addition to reading and writing children’s stories, her hobbies include playing chamber music and embroidery. She is the author of seven further Chalet books as well as numerous short stories and articles.
