EG Henrietta’s House by Elizabeth Goudge
£13.00
Henrietta is a sensitive and enchanting Edwardian girl living in Torminster (Wells) which is where Elizabeth Goudge was born and spent her early childhood). Here, amid the blaze of summer flowers, Hugh Anthony’s tenth birthday is celebrated, and what a celebration it is! Those glorious adventures in Foxglove Combe, with all the wealth of folk-lore and fairy-lore, provide the setting to the enchanted picnic in which everyone gets his or her heart’s desire.
We have some excellent introductory material. There is a article by Clarissa Cridland on Torminster – Wells (Torminster being the fictional setting which is obviously Wells), with lots of photographs; a review of A City of Bells, EG’s first book set in Torminster which is a prequel to HH, by Jilly Day; a biographical article on EG by Ann Mackie-Hunter and a Bibliography. There were four colour plates in the first edition, and these have been reproduced in colour on the back cover, and reprinted inside in black-and-white.
Henrietta’s House was published on 24th July 2020 and has been reprinted at least once.
